Representation Protection and Networking

Access, Information and Mentoring

As a member of CSA you will not only gain entry to the industry’s leadership, but you will also have access to general contractors, key industry documents and mentoring not available anywhere else.

Legal Hotline

The CSA’s legal counsel, Michelson, Kane, Royster & Barger, P.C., is available to answer quick questions for members about basic construction law topics, such as: time frames for filing a mechanic’s lien or a payment bond claim; availability of Connecticut statutes for payment or retainage problems on private construction projects; lien waivers; liability of a general contractor for prevailing wage claims against a subcontractor.

There is no charge for these calls, but conversations are restricted to 5-10 minutes for basic informational purposes.

Education

CSA conducts regular educational forums that cover a wide variety of issues of importance and concern to the subcontractor. In 2010 the programs will include a legislative session, a seminar to cover Department of Public Works issues, a forum with a general contractor and workshops on lien laws and workers compensation. As a member all of these programs are available to you at a discounted rate.

Legislative Information and United Voice

The combined force of CSA’s membership provides the industry with a unified and influential voice when addressing legislative issues. In its history, CSA sponsored legislation has resulted in a revision of the state’s lien laws to be more supportive of subcontractors, reductions in retainage, an improvement in the payment process, the establishment of retainage escrow accounts, and revised language in hold harmless clauses that benefited subcontractors and improved bonding practices. In 2009 CSA achieved a legislative victory with the passage of a new law that helps subcontractors get paid for change orders.
